The GIRLS Supplementary Education Program:
The GIRLS program is primarily established in underdeveloped schools in need of a supplementary STEM program. Our program includes the teaching of foundational STEM concepts, exposure to prominent scientists in different STEM fields, and conducting a hands-on experiment. The experiment supplies and procedure are provided by us. Concepts covered in this program range from biology and chemistry to physics and mathematics. GIRLS team members lead the experiment while students actually perform the experiment themselves in small groups or partners. This program lasts about 6-8 weeks, and the GIRLS team will come in once a week to run it. Since GIRLS is a volunteer-run organization, this program is entirely free of cost! All we ask of you is to provide some eager, young steminists!
The GIRLS
"All in One Day" STEM Event:
The GIRLS "All in One Day" Event typically is run on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and lasts from about 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. During this day, the GIRLS team will teach a lesson plan (or a couple) on some STEM concepts, also ranging from biology and chemistry to physics and mathematics, conduct an experiment (or a couple) with students, and expose students to prominent scientists in STEM fields. Also, the GIRLS team will organize a panel of STEM professionals or have a keynote STEM speaker present about their specialty and answer questions from the students. Since GIRLS is a volunteer-run organization, this program is also entirely free of cost and can take place on the Univeristy of Miami's undergraduate campus.
